Adding your dogs: microchips, registration and pedigrees
Record each dog’s microchip, registration, parents and DNA results in WhelpHQ, and keep outside studs on file for your litters and pedigrees.
Every dog gets its own page in WhelpHQ, with its microchip, registration, parents, weights, treatments, health events and breeding history in one place.
Add a dog
- 1Open Dogs and tap Add.
- 2Choose Female or Male, and tick Desexed if they are.
- 3Fill in Name / Call Name, Microchip Number, Breed, Date of Birth and Colour.
- 4Leave Status as Active for a dog that lives with you.
- 5Tap Add Dog.
Add the microchip number now. You’ll need it for sale paperwork, and some states require it in ads. The guide to selling puppies in QLD, NSW, VIC and TAS has each state’s rules.
Registration, tattoo and DNA case number
These aren’t on the Add Dog form. Open the dog’s page, tap Edit dog (the pencil icon) and open Registration & DNA. There you can add the Tattoo, Breed Association, Registered Name / Pedigree No. and DNA Case #.
Parents and pedigree
In the same Edit Dog form, open Parentage and pick the Dam (mother) and Sire (father). Once parents are linked, the dog’s page shows a three-generation Pedigree. When you pick the sire from your dogs or outside studs in Log Mating, it also shows the projected inbreeding coefficient (COI) of the litter.
Stud dogs from other kennels
To link a litter to a stud you don’t own, add him as a dog and tick Outside dog — not one of yours. He’s kept on file so litters and pedigrees can link to him, but he’s left out of your main Dogs list, your counts and your Archive. To find him again, choose Outside dogs (on file only) in the Dogs page filter.
DNA test results
On the dog’s page, the DNA / Genetic Testing card takes a PDF of a DNA report, so it stays with the dog’s record. Tap the file name to open it, or Replace to upload a newer one.
Groups
The Groups tab on the Dogs page keeps dogs together, for example your breeding bitches. You can then log a treatment for the whole group at once.
When a dog leaves
When a dog is sold, rehomed or dies, open their page and tap Record exit event (the door icon). The dog moves to your Archive with the date and details, and its history is kept.
Only delete a dog that was added by mistake. Recording an exit event keeps the dog’s records; deleting doesn’t.
Import from a spreadsheet
On the Dogs page, tap Import, then Download CSV template. Fill in one row per dog; each row needs at least a name or a microchip number. Upload the file, check the preview, then tap Import.
